Taking advantage of the current spell of fine weather, the boys and girls in 5th Class decided to explore the flora and fauna of our local environment with a particular focus on trees. We researched some different native and non-native species and set about identifying the trees between our school and Loughihoe hill. We found ash, hazel, elder, holly, hawthorn and sycamore to name a few. We are also researching folklore associated with the different trees. We know that we should be careful near the hawthorn trees so that we do not disturb the fairies!
