Partnering Children on their Developmental Journey

Inspired by Jackson Pollock

Ratheniska

We had great fun making some crazy paintings and an even crazier mess of the floor when we created some splatter paintings. We were inspired by a video we saw of Jackson Pollock making some of his famous paintings. We have also been learning about the water cycle. Your child might sing it for you.

New Art Gallery

Ratheniska

We have uploaded a new gallery featuring some of our artwork from term 2. We think we have some real budding artists in Ratheniska NS. Why don’t you have a look under the gallery section on our website.

Aistear

Ratheniska

In Infants we are embracing Aistear, which is the new early childhood curriculum framework. During our play sessions, we engage in role play, construction, small world and creative play. We love coming up with new ideas for our playtime and we  also play games during the day to help us learn new ideas in different curriculum areas.Aistear

Polling Day Results!

Ratheniska

We are delighted to announce the result of our vote for a name for our new bunny. All the children present in school today and some staff members voted by secret ballot. Tension was mounting as the day progressed. The total valid poll was 239!  The winning name , with a total of 47 votes, is OREO! This name was suggested by Stephen McCabe (6th Class), Olivia Soosay ( 5th Class) and Lale Bingól (4th Class). Coco was the second choice , suggested by Alison Kelly  and third choice was Cookie, suggested by Marc Ramsbottom.  When we originally went looking for a new rabbit, we decided to see if the L.S.P.C.A. had any rabbits to rehome. They informed us that they had 3 and  we could pick whichever one we liked. We decided on Oreo as he seemed very friendly and we knew he would love our school! We hope he will be with us for many years to come! Click here if you would like to see Oreo with his brothers/sisters before we got him.

Our New Bunny.

Ratheniska

Welcome to the newest member of our school community, a lovely 5 month old bunny rabbit who,  at the moment, is just called Bunny! Sadly, we no longer have Cody, our black rabbit who lived in our school for the last 6 years. Over the next week we will choose a name for our new pet. Suggestions for names will be taken from 4th, 5th and 6th classes and on Friday each child in the school will vote for his/her favourite name. The chosen name will be announced here on the website next Monday!Bunny

Growing Beans

Ratheniska

First Class have been busy exploring the broad bean. We are waiting patiently to see each stage of the life cycle and hoping for some warmth from the sun! The photo shows some of the beans which have been sown in glass jars. The jars are currently on our classroom window sills and are being checked and watered daily. Growing Beans

Rambling Nature Enthusiasts!

Ratheniska

Third Class had a wonderful ramble to Lougheehoe in the run up to the Easter holidays. We used our pooters to explore the habitat of local mini beasts- otherwise known as creepy crawlies! Nature Walk
