Happy Halloween 2017!

Ratheniska

We dressed up, we baked, we had Maths trails, we painted and crafted, we played games – all in our Halloween costumes! But the best and scariest was definitely the disco organised by the Parents’ Association. From the minute we arrived at the hall, we were awed by the ghosts and goblins of all shapes and sizes. Thank you so much to all the Mams and Dads who did such a scary job! Have a look at the video below and after that, don’t forget to check out the Parents’Association page!

Happy Halloween!

Division 1 Football Champions 2017!

Ratheniska

And so….the girls took to the pitch in O’Moore Park with one objective in mind – to bring the  Division 1 cup to Ratheniska for the first time. They did not disappoint and emerged worthy winners over Holy Family. It was a well fought , sporting game and after a rousing speech they headed off for refreshments and celebrations compliments of  the Parents’Association. You can read the match report here to see how the game was won!

Scary night in Ratheniska!

Ratheniska

The first venture of our new committee was the Halloween Disco which we hosted in the hall for all the children in our school. A very scary, creative atmosphere was set up and was commented on by one and all. A huge thank you to those involved. Thank you also to the parents and children who put in such a great effort with their costumes. We hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night and we are looking forward to our next venture.

Maths Week 2017

Ratheniska

In between Hurricane Ophelia and Storm Brian, we celebrated Maths Week. We took our iPads and created maths trails in the immediate school grounds, we had fun playing old-fashioned Snakes and Ladders type games and we even created our own number games. We certainly realise that Maths is more than working in our copies and learning tables!

Sowing and Growing

Ratheniska

Juniors and Senior Infants have been busy learning about life processes in Science this week. Senior Infants set about sowing snowdrops while Juniors chose crocuses. We know we will have to wait a while before we see anything happening but we look forward to some colour in late Winter and early Spring.

Myself

Ratheniska

In the past few weeks, Rang 1 have been exploring the theme “Myself”. We created colourful timelines reflecting our interests and how we have changed since we were babies. We also wrote about ourselves and what we would like to be in the future- doctors, vets, guards, nail artists and even famous singers!

Crafty Kids 2017

With Hurricane Ophelia behind us,  we are back at work and enjoying learning lots of new things, especially being creative and arty. Have a look at some of the artwork we have produced since September. Click here to go to the gallery.

A New School Year

Ratheniska

We all went to the church last week to celebrate our beginning of year Mass. As Fr Paddy led us in prayer, he was  ably assisted by Rang 6. We all took an active part by joining in the hymns that we had practised. We look forward to a safe and happy year ahead.

Red Riding Hood in Juniors!

Ratheniska

Junior Infants have had lots of fun last week roleplaying Little Red Riding Hood. They took a walk in the “woods”, brought some food to grandma and got help from the woodcutters when needed! Great fun!
