We held our annual table quiz on Wednesday 27th. The hall was packed with 25 teams of eager boys and girls from Timahoe, Stradbally, Ballyroan, the Heath and , of course, Ratheniska! Following several rounds of testing questions, our own boys and girls came out on top. Many thanks to all who supported this fundraiser and to the parents who organised the night.
Pets in 4th!
RatheniskaTo the delight of all the boys and girls in 4th , Les brought some of the family pets to school recently. We stroked the snake, the bearded dragon and the turtle. We had a question and answer session during which we learned lots about the trials and joys of owning such unusual pets.
Step inside and calm your mind.
RatheniskaMany thanks to the Parents’Association who have kindly funded the refurbishment of S.E.T Room 2. All children now have access to a quiet soft space if the need arises.
Happy Valentine’s Day
RatheniskaAll the boys and girls got creative in the run-up to St Valentine’s Day and they crafted some lovely gifts and cards for their Mams and Dads as the children in 1st class show here.
Green Schools Update
RatheniskaThe Green Schools’ Committee travelled to Roscrea recently as we had the honour of being invited to give a presentation to some other schools on the theme of water. We had been awarded this flag last year so we were well informed and very willing to give some tips and advice to other schools who are now aiming for Green Flag#3. We had great fun meeting the boys and girls from all the other schools and enjoyed the workshop sessions best of all!
100 Days in Seniors
RatheniskaSenior Infants celebrated 100 days in their present class last week. They played the game Race to 100, did 100 exercises, made drawings with 100, and built with 100 tangrams, blocks and pieces of lego. They are well on their way to a great understanding of how much 100 really means!
Dancing in 1st
RatheniskaDuring the months of January and February many of the classes explore the Dance strand of the PE curriculum. First class responded to music in many ways including making letters of the alphabet and being jungle animals, woodland animals and farm animals. They created group dances as animals in a museum who come to life when the caretaker locks up each evening!
Safer Internet Day 2019
RatheniskaSafer Internet Day was the topic of conversation in all classes from Juniors to 6th last Tuesday. The children in the junior classes heard the story of Digiduck and discussed issues such as what is personal information and why it should not be shared online. Mr Ryan and Ms Craven held discussion workshops with the children from 3rd to 6th where many issues regarding internet safety and cyber bullying were addressed. Valuable lessons were learned by all.
Credit Union Table Quiz 2019
RatheniskaThe First stage of the Annual Credit Union Table quiz took place last week. We were very ably represented by four pupils from Rang 6 who were amongst the highest scorers on the night. Unfortunately, they didn’t score highly enough to get to the next level but they had a very enjoyable night!
Green Schools on the Move!
RatheniskaThis year’s Green Schools Committee are busy working on acquiring our fourth Green flag which is based around the theme of travel. This theme aims to increase the number of students walking, cycling, using public transport or carpooling to school. We recently had a visit from Karen Moore from An Taisce who is our travel guru helping us and giving us ideas how to go about getting this flag. We had a walkabout in the locality and we were looking at the potential for more sustainable travel to school, most notably”Park and Stride”. A very big thank you goes to Mr Fennelly for coordinating the Green School committee’s efforts.
