Induction Day 2019.

Today we had the pleasure of greeting 30 new little boys and girls who will be joining our school in September. They arrived full of anticipation and straight away set about getting to know their new surroundings. We look forward to welcoming them and their families back in September. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for providing refreshments to everybody at the end of the information session.

Silly Hair Day!

Before school today, every household was a hive off activity as hair gel, dye, ribbons, bobbins and much more were taken out to style our hair for our first ever Silly Hair Day. After much imagination, perseverance and styling, we were ready to go. Click on the video to see some of our creations. Thank you to all who contributed to this fun fundraiser.

Under The Hawthorn Tree in Ratheniska

The boys and girls from 4th Class have been studying the novel “Under the Hawthorn Tree” by Marita Conlon McKenna in recent weeks. They finished off their study by getting creative and building a diorama of the part that had the greatest impression on them. Great teamwork and beautiful completed creations!

First Holy Communion 2019

On May 18th, 27 boys and girls from 2nd Class celebrated the Sacrament of the Eucharist with their families in St Aonghus’ Church, Ratheniska. Fr Paddy celebrated the ceremony and thanked all the parents, Ms Dunne and class teacher, Mrs Stapleton, for their work preparing the children for their special day. Fr Paddy also made a special mention of the 37 years’ service which Mrs Stapleton has given to the school.  Following the Mass, many photos were taken and everybody went to the Hall for some lovely refreshments which were provided by the Parent’s Association.

First Communion Day

A huge thank you to all parents who made the post-Communion reception in the Hall such a success on Saturday last. We  took the opportunity, at the end of Mass to thank Mrs Stapleton for all her work  and dedication during her teaching career. We would like to wish her all the very best as she begins the next chapter of her life.

An Apple a Day!

In Junior Infants this week , our topic was “Apples”. We discovered there was a “star” inside every apple. We carried out an experiment to discover if there were any viable means of preventing apples from turning brown. We then decided that we fancied some apple tart so we got our ingredients together, baked our tart and thoroughly enjoyed each and every slice!

6th Class Masterchefs!

With only a few weeks left in Primary School, Rang 6 are getting ready for the outside world by honing their culinary skills and treating their classmates to Friday lunch. This week, the theme was Mexican food and the nominated group set about preparing Fajitas served with curly fries. Delicious!

Term 3 is now well underway and, to develop our physical literacy, all children and staff are undertaking a half hour’s exercise each morning. This also coincides with training for the annual Class to 3K which the boys and girls from 3rd to 6th classes will be doing later in the term. Following our exercise sessions, we are invigorated and ready for a great day’s work!
