On May 18th, 27 boys and girls from 2nd Class celebrated the Sacrament of the Eucharist with their families in St Aonghus’ Church, Ratheniska. Fr Paddy celebrated the ceremony and thanked all the parents, Ms Dunne and class teacher, Mrs Stapleton, for their work preparing the children for their special day. Fr Paddy also made a special mention of the 37 years’ service which Mrs Stapleton has given to the school.  Following the Mass, many photos were taken and everybody went to the Hall for some lovely refreshments which were provided by the Parent’s Association.

An Apple a Day!

Ratheniska

In Junior Infants this week , our topic was “Apples”. We discovered there was a “star” inside every apple. We carried out an experiment to discover if there were any viable means of preventing apples from turning brown. We then decided that we fancied some apple tart so we got our ingredients together, baked our tart and thoroughly enjoyed each and every slice!

Term 3 is now well underway and, to develop our physical literacy, all children and staff are undertaking a half hour’s exercise each morning. This also coincides with training for the annual Class to 3K which the boys and girls from 3rd to 6th classes will be doing later in the term. Following our exercise sessions, we are invigorated and ready for a great day’s work!
