Our football team contested a thrilling Division 1 Final in O’Moore Park against St Paul’s , Portlaoise on Thursday 22nd. Each and every team member fought brilliantly to win the match and were presented with the division 1 cup by former pupil, Kieran Lillis. A huge thanks to all the lads for their efforts, to their parents for all their support and to Mr. Conway and Mr. O’Mahony for bringing them so far. Boo!
RatheniskaOur Parents’ Council hosted a very scary but fun Halloween Disco on Wednesday 21st. The hall was transformed into a witch’s coven and many hours of face painting and costume making resulted in an extremely successful night. Have a look at our ghosts, ghouls and ghastly creatures!
A Walk in the Woods
RatheniskaJunior and Senior Infants took advantage of the lovely Autumn weather and went for a walk in Togher Woods. We spotted some fungi, fern, pines cones, moss and of course, we enjoyed strolling through the carpet of fallen leaves.
Shape-tastic!!
RatheniskaWe have been having a shape-tastic time in second class! Recently we constructed 2D shapes with matchsticks and playdough. We used different 2D shapes to make the shape of rockets, houses, faces and even hats! We went on a 2D shape hunt in our classroom. We had great fun exploring. We even used our bodies to make fun 2D shapes too! Can you guess the shapes we made?

M.S. Readathon
RatheniskaAs the time approaches for the M.S. Readathon, we had a visit recently from the local Schools’ Ambassador for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Pat Dwyer. During his visit to 3rd and 4th classes, he told us a lot about Multiple Sclerosis and how it affects people’s daily lives. Two interesting facts were that some people get blurred vision at times while others may have limited use of their hands. We had great fun experimenting what this would be like by trying to read with glasses smeared with Vaseline and trying to tie our laces with gloves on!
Dragon Brothers
RatheniskaOn Friday 9th, we were delighted to welcome renowned author James Russell to our school to read from his books, Dragon Hunters, Dragon Tamers and Dragon Riders. James told us that his two boys, Paddy and Flynn were always asking him to make up stories for them, so he went one step further and published a trilogy in which the two boys are the main characters! After James’ reading which really brought the books to life, there were lots of questions about the characters, the author himself and the illustrator. Click here to visit the book’s website.
H is for hen!
RatheniskaOn our way back from P.E., Junior Infants called in to Anna’s house to see her hen and new baby chicks.Anna’s Dad let us rub one of the chicks and we had a competition to name the Mammy Hen. The biggest vote was for Hannah Hen which was very appropriate as our letter of the week was H!
Banana Smoothies
RatheniskaDuring our Literacy hour in 1st class, we were discussing how to write a procedure. We thought it would be a good idea to make banana smoothies. We got all our ingredients together and followed the instructions step by step. The result was a delicious banana smoothie for everyone in the class!
