We would like to wish all our school community a very spooky, scary and safe Halloween and, of course, an Intermediate County Title for Park-Ratheniska footballers in their upcoming game against Mountmellick.

Second Class have been learning about Halloween traditions and celebrations around the world. The focus has been on Dia de los Meurtos in Mexico in particular. The boys and girls have created and painted spooky clay ‘Sugar Skulls’. Here they are putting the finishing touches to their creations!
Junior Infants are exploring number 2 this week and as it is Maths Week, we set about finding it in our school environment. We discovered numbers everywhere and, in particular, the one we were looking for!
Halloween vibes are popping up everywhere this week. The latest addition has been a very impressive display at the front of our school which Rang a Sé worked together to create! Pumpkins were carved, painted and stuffed and many other Autumnal touches were added before the display was assembled and set up for all to admire.
Teamwork, harvesting, baking and sustainability came together in Rang a Cúig recently. An Fómhar was the theme and the boys and girls brought in fruit from their gardens. Apples, plums and blackberries were harvested and the class got together in teams to create some very delicious crumble. To add to the process, it was all done “as Gaeilge”
Maith sibh!
Senior Infants are getting into the mood for Halloween during their daily Aistear sessions. They are busy writing spooky recipes, making ghoulish potions and serving unsuspecting customers – Playful learning at its best!
Junior Infants are embracing Six Bricks in many areas of their learning. Through fun and short activities with sets of LEGO® DUPLO® bricks. in six bright colours, the boys and girls can practice their memory, movement, creativity and more. They work collaboratively to solve problems and, here, they are building the Tricky Tower. Their competitive spirit is evident as they strive to build the tallest, most stable structure!
The boys and girls from 3rd Class, who had to defer their First Holy Communion Day last May, celebrated the Sacrament of the Eucharist in great style on October 9th. Held in the SS Peter and Paul’s Church in Portlaoise and officiated by all the priests of the parish, it was a momentous occasion for all families involved.
This week, Rang a Trí made lava lamps while investigating what happens when oil is added to water.
We discovered that oil and water do not mix; they separate because water is more dense than oil.
Next, we added food colouring and watched as it dropped down through the oil and mixed with the water.
Finally, we added an effervescent tablet and watched as our lava lamps came to life! The tablet sank to the bottom of the bottle and reacted with the water to produce carbon dioxide bubbles.
We really enjoyed this experiment and we did a great job at following all of the steps in the investigation!
