Performing Artists in Ratheniska

Ratheniska

The Performing Strand of our Music Curriculum was very much in evidence in all classrooms this week as many of us took part in class talents shows. Click on the video below to sample just a few of the performing artists as well as some very creative crafts which have been completed in the last fortnight.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy Christmas and we will return to school on January 6th for an action-packed Term 2!

Time to Pray

Ratheniska

We had our annual Christmas Mass this week as our preparations for Christmas gather momentum. Fr Ciprian celebrated the Mass and he was ably assisted by Rang 5 who led us in the prayers. As part of the 2nd Class preparations for their First Holy Communion, the boys and girls from Ms Treacy’s class presented Fr Ciprian with a display explaining their thoughts on the real meaning of Christmas.

Working for P.A.T.H.

Ratheniska

Over the last number of weeks, we have been collecting toiletries, hats, scarves, gifts and much more for our annual contribution to P.A.T.H. (Portlaoise Action To Homelessness). We were delighted to welcome some of the P.A.T.H. volunteers to school last week and we presented them with eight boxes which they will distribute to some deserving people in Portlaoise and Dublin. A huge thank you to all who contributed and to Jacinta Ingle, one of our parents, for coordinating the appeal.

Theatre Time!

Ratheniska

All the boys and girls from Juniors to 2nd Class descended on the Dunamaise Arts Centre last week to attend the annual Christmas production by the Talisman Theatre group. We sang, clapped, booed and cheered when Santa came out on top and Christmas was saved for another year!

Christmas Jumper Time!

Ratheniska

Our second Fun Friday Fundraiser was a great success today, December 6th. We got into the festive spirit by wearing our Christmas jumpers and raised some money which will be used for the benefit of all our classmates in our school.

Time to make our Wreaths!

Ratheniska

Greenery, wire, ribbons, flowers and string were in abundance this week as 6th Class got together to make some Christmas wreaths. We think their final products are amazing!

Christmas Preparations in Juniors

Ratheniska

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Juniors as the little ones dress up as Santa, Santa’s brother, sister, mother, father and, of course, the elves! We got together to put up the Christmas tree, made some snowmen and leafed through some catalogues to choose our favourite toys. We just can’t wait for the next few weeks to pass!

The Normans in 4th

Ratheniska

Rang 4 have been studying the life and times of the Normans during the last term. They researched, discussed and wrote about the Normans and demonstrated their knowledge through the media of visual arts.

Down by the River!

Ratheniska

The boys and girls in Rang 6 spent some time during their Geography classes studying rivers. Having become familiar with such terms as source, meander, oxbow lakes and much more, they created 3D impressions of what they had learned. They certainly won’t have any difficulty with this chapter when they head to Secondary school next year!

Denim Day 2019

Ratheniska

We held the first of our Fun Friday Fundraisers recently. We were delighted to leave our uniforms aside for a day as we donned our denims. We had a draw in each class for everyone who participated and we were all very jealous of the winners who received a homework pass from Ms. Dunne. We cant wait for the next fundraiser!
