Ratheniska National School

Partnering Children on their Developmental Journey

1st and 2nd in Castlecomer

Ratheniska

1st and 2nd classes went on their trip to the discovery park in Castlecomer. We went on a nature trail, got into the river with our fishing nets, completed a challenging obstacle course and we had lots of fun in the playground. We all agreed that it was a great day out!

Green Flag #3

Ratheniska

The National Green School Awards ceremony took place in Athlone last week. On behalf of our school and in particular, the boys and girls on the Green Schools’ Committee, Mr Fennelly and Ms.O’Byrne travelled to the ceremony. We were all delighted when they arrived home with our brand new Green Flag which we received because of our work on water conservation. Well done to all!

Count your Coins!

Ratheniska

We have decided to hold our annual coin collection again this year. The collection jars are ready and the class who fills their jar first will be treated to pizza for lunch! Juniors got the ball rolling as some of them emptied their coins into their jar!

Welcome to our prospective pupils!

Ratheniska

On May 21st, we welcomed the parents of the new Junior Infants who will be starting in September to our school. They were met by Ms. Dunne, Mrs Stapleton and Mrs Dwyer and we had the pleasure of providing refreshments at the end of the meeting. We look forward to working with them on their journey through our school.

Congrats, a chailiní!

Ratheniska

We would like to extend our congratulations to the girls who won  the Cumann na mBunscol Camogie Final. We were delighted to fund a celebratory trip to Supermacs after the match!

Infants in Emo!

Ratheniska

Junior and Senior Infants travelled to Emo Court for a daytrip this week. The sun shone brightly as we wandered  along exploring the flora and fauna, we picnicked by the lake, we rolled down the hills and some even got a mini tour of the big house by tour guide, Margaret.

6th Class Masterchefs

Ratheniska

As the 6th Class students enter their final few weeks in Ratheniska, they decided to head to the kitchen and cook up some culinary delights. To be able to work as a team and cook lunch for teams of 4-5 classmates proved no obstacle to the masterchefs. Lasagne, curry, homemade burgers and much more were consumed and maybe have enticed some pupils to take up Home Economics when they go to secondary school in a few months time.

Champions once more!

Ratheniska

A huge congratulations and well done to the cailíní in Rang 5 and Rang 6 for their win in the Cumann na mBunscol Division 4 Camogie Final. The 6th class girls, in particular, delighted in finishing off their time in Cumann na mBunscol by winning the double both this year and last year. A great achievement by each and everyone on the squad and , of course, a huge thank you goes to Mr O’Mahoney and Mr Conway for all their work .Thanks also to the Parents’ Association for the apres-match celebrations in Supermacs!  The following photos are courtesy of Park Ratheniska GAA Club.

Walking in Sunshine!

Ratheniska

The  sun finally appeared last week and Junior Infants went looking for signs of Summer in our locality. As we are also exploring the theme of water at the moment, we visited the  pump and the well. We tried, to no avail, to get a drink from the pump, we found bluebells, dandelions and cherry blossom and we enjoyed going down the steps to peep in at the well. We love being out and about in our local environment!

First Holy Communion 2018

Ratheniska

On Saturday , May 12th, 22 children from 2nd Class gathered with their families at The Church of the Holy Cross in Ratheniska to celebrate their First Holy Communion. Fr. Paddy celebrated the Mass and the choir from 4th, 5th and 6th Class enhanced the occasion with their beautiful singing. A huge thank you to Mrs Stapleton for preparing the children for their special day.
