Partnering Children on their Developmental Journey

Nollaig Shona!

Ratheniska

As we head off on our Christmas Holidays, we would like to say “Slán” to Ms Morrissey as she heads back to the Premier County!

All the boys, girls and staff  in our school would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas. We are looking forward to the New Year and will return to school on Monday 8th January.

Sweet Treats!

Ratheniska

There were sweet treats a-plenty this week as Senior Infants and 3rd class took to the kitchen and made gingerbread men and Jammie Dodgers. They worked collaboratively to produce their goodies and enjoyed eating them later. Tom, John and Daniel also showed off their culinary skills and presented some lovely key Lime Pie and chocolate mousse as their masterpieces.

Young Entrepreneurs in Rang 5

Ratheniska

The last few weeks have been hectic in 5th Class as we got into groups and set up our very own mini companies. We brainstormed lots of ideas and researched the best ways to create and market our products. Have a look at our video below which has clips from each mini- company. We really enjoyed the process and we are very proud of our work!

Christmas Cheer!

Ratheniska

We have been very busy recently in the run-up to Christmas. All the pupils designed their own Christmas Cards which should be well on their way to their friends and relations at this stage. We also organised our annual Christmas Hamper Draw. Many thanks to all the families who contributed to these ventures. There was great excitement as the winner of the hampers were announced. Finally , we presented each child with a selection box of goodies to start off the Christmas celebrations and festivities.

We would like to wish all the school community a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year!

Rudolph’s Nose

Ratheniska

Christmas card production went to a new level in Rang 2 this week when the boys and girls combined their artistic and scientific skills to create a card featuring Rudolph and his red nose which actually lights up! What a clever lot!

Stuffy Snowmen!

Ratheniska

When the snow came last week, Rang 4 were inspired to make their very own snowmen. They searched their sock drawers at home, brought in what they could find, they stuck, stuffed and stitched and produced a rather large family of snowmen, women and children!

Theatre Kids

Ratheniska

All the boys and girls from Juniors to 2nd Class travelled to the Dunamaise Theatre in Portlaoise  today to enjoy Rudolph Saves Christmas which was presented by The Talisman Theatre Company. We donned our Santa hats and clapped, booed and cheered as we enjoyed the age-old story of Rudolph and the trouble Santa was in one foggy Christmas night!

Junior Elves!

Ratheniska

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! – the first snow of winter has arrived and Junior Infants are busy using their Aistear  time to act out being elves and reindeer at Santa’s workshop. They are busy making and wrapping toys, packing the sleigh which they re-modelled out of cardboard boxes and Santa was even seen bribing the reindeer with some money to entice them to get ready for their trip around the world!!

Angels we have heard on high!

Ratheniska

We celebrated our Advent Mass last Friday. Having learned lots of festive Christmas Carols, we joined in prayer with Fr Paddy, our teachers and all our friends – a fitting start to the Christmas Season!

Gymnasts of the Future

Ratheniska

Junior and Senior Infants completed their 6 week session at Portlaoise Gymnastics Club last week. Under the guidance of Denis, Nicola and Deirdre, they improved in agility and confidence week by week and are looking forward to going back again next year!
