Happy Halloween!

Ratheniska

Ghosts, ghouls, witches and wizards were roaming the corridors in abundance on the last day of half term. We played some traditional and not quite traditional games and we all got into the spirit of Samhain. We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy midterm break and we look forward to getting together again on Monday, November 7th.

Halloween Treats in 6th

Ratheniska

Following on from the 5th Class bake-off, Rang 6 took over the kitchen on the last day of the week. They proved to be just as creative as their 5th class counterparts and competition was fierce before the judges announced the winners……!

Halloween Disco 2022

Ratheniska
The Ratheniska Parents Association were delighted to host the much anticipated Halloween Disco in the Community Hall last Wednesday. A big thanks to DJ Tim Chambers for his spooktacular music. The kids had great fun and danced the night away. Also a special thank to Brian Phelan for his hard work and creativity in transforming the hall into a place of horror and terror!!
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Halloween break.

First Class Artists

Ratheniska

In First Class, we have been working on our self portraits and we have created our very own Fine Art gallery. We created some large portraits as well as some miniatures. Many of the materials we used have been recycled, including lids from ice cream tubs for our miniatures.

We have also got into the spirit of Halloween by making some spooky mobiles which we have hung with pride in our classroom.

Halloween Bake-Off in 5th

Ratheniska

In Rang 5, we were busy showing off our baking skills this week during our Halloween Bake-off. We baked and decorated lots of Halloween treats from Graveyard Brownies to Dracula Teeth Cookies. We were judged by Mr Conway, Aine, Joanna and our class teacher , Ms Mulhall. We had great fun and can’t wait for the next bake-off!

Senior Infant Potions

Ratheniska

Halloween vibes and Maths Week worked very well together in Senior Infants last week. We got our “recipes” for Witches’ Brew and had to count out several different ingredients before we got mixing and casting our spells! A great hands on activity to consolidate our number skills!

Maths Week in 5th

Ratheniska

Maths Week was celebrated countrywide last week, 15th-23rd October. Maths for All is at the core of everything we do. This simple phrase encapsulates our belief that no matter what age, background or ability; maths is useful and it can  enrich our lives. During Maths Week, 5th Class decided to gather some data from every class in the school. We found out what were the favouirite colours of the children in Junior and Senior Infants. We discovered who liked what pets in 1st and 2nd. In 3rd and 4th, we discussed favourite hobbies while 5th and 6th summed up their favourite meals for us. We worked collaboratively to collate all our information and displayed it in the form of several graphs. It was truly a coming together of the interests and favourites of all the pupils in our school.

Beautiful Birds in 3rd!

Ratheniska

Third class have been exploring the slab technique for creating with clay. After looking at some inspirational clay pieces from an Irish sculptor, we planned our designs on paper. Next we got to work carving our birds from smooth slabs of clay. We used clay tools to make the markings from our design plans. It was more challenging than we expected but we all persevered and got there in the end ! Once the clay had dried out, it was time for some colour . We hope you like our beautiful birds!

Blackberry Picking in Juniors

Ratheniska

While exploring the theme of autumn, Junior Infants went blackberry picking and discovered that there was an abundance of fruit in the environs of the school. We then went to the kitchen, made some blackberry jam and finally enjoyed some toast topped with our very own homemade blackberry jam!
