Shades and Shorts!

Ratheniska

Our end of year disco was on Friday 23rd in St Aonghus’ Hall. Our theme was once again “Shades and Shorts”! What was widely anticipated to be a very enjoyable night didn’t disappoint and we got the chance to bid 6th Class a fond farewell as they head off  to Secondary school.

Sports Day and More!

Ratheniska

Our school Sports Day was on 21st June and we all headed to the GAA pitch for an action-packed day. We enjoyed the usual classics- the sprints, the potato and spoon, and the three legged race as well as the obstacle races and, of course, the ice-cream! Check out some of the outdoor fun we’ve had in the last couple of weeks.

Sweet Treats!

Ratheniska

We hosted a Cake Sale in school on Friday 16th. Almost every family in the school donated cakes, cookies, bread and even homemade jam and fresh strawberries. We set up our stall outside with the help of 6th Class who became small enterprise men and women for the day! As children and parents came to spend their money, it was clear that we would not be left with even a crumb! Thank you to all who supported this venture in any way.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

Ratheniska

Juniors Infants invited their teddies to a Teddy Bear’s picnic on Tuesday. The most loved and hugged teddies were brought to school and showed off to friends. The teddies were deposited around various locations in the GAA pitch by some 6th class children while we read and acted out “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. We then set off on our very own bear hunt and had great fun tracking down all our bears!

Class to 3K 2017

Ratheniska

The sun shone as 4th, 5th and 6th descended on the grounds of Emo Court to run the now annual “Class to 3K”. Having trained for several weeks they were well ready to take on the challenge. Many personal bests were recorded and everyone was delighted that they had finally reached their goal!

Rang 6 on Tour!

Ratheniska

Before they leave Ratheniska NS, Rang 6 went on their last trip together on June 14th. They spent an action packed day  at the University of Limerick Adventure Centre. They tried out their hand at archery, climbed to dizzy heights and took to the water under the careful supervision of the ULAC team, Mr Ryan, Ms Sugrue and Ms Dunne. A great team building day which will be remembered for many years to come!

Mathematical 5th!

Ratheniska

5th class have been busy improving their reasoning and problem solving skills this week. They used IZak 9 which consists of a series of tasks posed by online characters Abacus and Helix. The children worked together to solve problems and discovered that there may be more than one solution to any given problem. By using it, everyone agrees that it makes Maths more meaningful and fun.

Salty Art!

Ratheniska

In Senior Infants, we had great fun recently producing some salt art masterpieces. We made our individual designs using glue and then worked together to pour on the salt and reveal our pictures. We finished off the project by using watercolour paint to add colour to our creations

Floating and Boating!

Ratheniska

Water was our topic in Juniors in the last few weeks. We discussed where water comes from, the many uses of water, water conservation and much more. We then set about making boats with Rang 5. The brief was that they should , of course, be able to float. Such materials as wine corks, ice pop sticks plastic containers and even oranges made very interesting boats! All the little ones had great fun launching their crafts.
