This week, Senior Infants have been allaying any fears that they might have of going to the dentist. During their daily Aistear Play Sessions, they have been building dentist surgeries, being examined by the dentist, writing up patient charts and even pulling fake teeth! Really enjoyable dental experiences!
A Trip to the Dentist!
RatheniskaCurious Scientists
RatheniskaScience Week arrived in Ratheniska and enquiring minds were busy at work investigating, predicting and observing. The boys and girls in 3rd Class were busy investigating light and got to grips with bulbs, batteries and circuits. There was lots of lava flowing in 4th Class, while in 5th Class, the brief was to present an experiment based on a water theme. All other classes had the opportunity to examine the experiments and even try out making quicksand, watching rain form in a glass, seeing water “walk” and many others. Head on over to our Gallery page to have a look at the scientists in action.

Our Halloween Disco
RatheniskaOnce again, we hosted our very popular Halloween Disco in Ratheniska Hall. A lot of work went into transforming the hall into a spooky, weird and wonderful place. We would like to express our gratitude to each and everyone who worked together to make this a most successful night.
Cumann na mBunscol Champs!
RatheniskaWe all headed off to O’Moore Park before the mid-term break to support the cailíní in the Division 2 Cumann na mBunscol Final against the girls from Abbeyleix. Following a very competitive match, Ratheniska came out on top much to the delight of all the supporters. Maith sibh, a chailíní!

Recycling at Halloween
Ratheniska6th Class got very creative during the the last few weeks by combining recycling with a Halloween theme. We gathered wine bottles, newspaper and clay. With the addition of masking tape, paint and glue, we created witches, clowns, cats, aliens and lots of other weird and wonderful characters. Even though they took a few weeks to complete, we think they look great!
An Apple a Day!
RatheniskaWith Halloween fast approaching, First Class got out of their classroom and headed for the kitchen. They set out a bag of apples, melted some chocolate and shared out the sprinkles to make some delicious chocolate apples. All agreed that they were the nicest apples they had eaten for quite a while!
Off to the Woods!
RatheniskaJunior and Senior Infants went on their annual field trip to the woods today. This year, decided to visit Carrigmeal woods in Dysart. We were met at the woods by Cara, Oisin and Sarah’s Grandad who explained about all the various types of trees in the woods. We spotted oak, rowan, beech and many more. We saw the birdboxes and the pheasant troughs and we gazed up at the trees while having our lunch. We finished off by planting a crab apple tree to mark visit and we sang Happy Birthday to Grandad Deegan on his special day!
