Partnering Children on their Developmental Journey

Going Batty in 1st!

Ratheniska

In Rang 1, we have been learning all there is to know about bats! We researched our topic in books and online using the ipads and the site, WorldBook Online. We used the information that we found to write a report on bats and we completed the work by making bats from cardboard tubes.

The Dentist at Work in Seniors!

Ratheniska

Senior Infants have been busy during Aistear for the last week or two. They have exploring the topic of dental hygiene in a fun way by setting up their very own Dentist’s Surgery. As the patients pass the time in the “Waiting Room”, the dentists and nurses put on their gowns and masks and get ready for the day ahead! Thankfully, the cavities are few and far between and most leave the surgery with a happy smile!

Science Week 2018

Ratheniska

All classes took special care with their Science lessons during Science week. Rang a Trí learned all about electricity and how to build a circuit. They experimented with conductors and insulators and were more than pleased when they managed to light up their bulbs!

Helping the Homeless

Ratheniska

In conjunction with the Parents’Association, we are currently creating an awareness of the problem of homelessness in our country. We welcomed some volunteers from P.A.T.H. (Portlaoise Action to Homelessness) yesterday. They gave a very interesting and informative talk to the pupils from 3rd to 6th classes on the work they do. We are now on a mission to fill a box with essential items in every classroom. These items include toiletries, socks, underwear etc. We are looking forward to handing over everything we collect to P.A.T.H. on Friday December 14th. You can find out more about the work the volunteers do by visiting their Facebook page.

Thank you to Jacinta for organising this initiative.

Happy Halloween!

Ratheniska

Now that we have reached mid-term, we can look back on the first two months of the school year and credit ourselves and the staff for all we have achieved in those two months. During the last week, we have been getting into  Halloween mode as we crafted, carved, discoed and dressed up. Head over to the Gallery page to see lots of photos and to the Parents Association page to see even more!

Happy Halloween!

Cumann na mBunscol Football Finals

The boys and girls from 5th and 6th Classes along with their parents and many other supporters descended on O’Moore Park on Wednesday to contest the Football Finals. The Girls took on Holy Family Senior School, Portlaoise while the boys pitted their skills against Scoil Bhríde, Portlaoise. While not bringing home any silverware, they all played their hearts in thrilling and hard-fought games. Congratulations once again to the boys and girls, to Mr Conway and to Mr O’Mahony on reaching the finals.

In Senior Infants, we carefully removed the pulp and seeds from our pumpkin, we carved the face and then the fun started! Under very close supervision by Ms Stapleton, we added some chemicals and watched closely as our pumpkin spewed green foam from every direction- Yuck!!
